A warning has been fired to families after a group of youths were found swimming in a Manchester reservoir. Officers were called out to reports of youngsters at Heaton Park reservoir on Tuesday (May 17), before the group tried to escape as cops arrived.

It comes as Greater Manchester basked in sunshine and warm temperatures earlier this week - while the region's fire and rescue service has again urged residents not to swim in open water over safety concerns.

Now, police are urging parents to discuss the dangers of swimming in reservoirs with their children. A spokesperson for GMP Manchester North said: "Yesterday officers from the Higher Blackley neighbourhood team attended reports of youths swimming in Heaton Park reservoir.

On our arrival several youths made off from police. READ MORE: 'The dog was hanging off my arms' - Second woman 'attacked by dog' near where boy, 3, was mauled to death "A few of these were later stopped and details were taken.
