A team of volunteer divers who found Scots fisherman Greig Stoddart have been gifted an expert search device.Beneath the Surface have now been appointed as the UK’s first AquaEye Ambassador after coming to the attention of the company that designed the machine.The Lancashire-based team stepped in to help the 44-year-old’s loved ones after he tragically died at Gartmorn Dam, Alloa, during a Christmas Eve fishing accident.
Pal Ian McBurney, 55, also lost his life but was found on Boxing Day. Police Scotland divers spent several weeks looking for the dad-of-five's body but volunteers were able to locate him in just two hours using an AquaEye borrowed from another group.Representatives of VodaSafe Inc., based in Canada, are set to travel to Scotland on March 16 to officially hand over the device and provide training to divers. I’m determined to get many more of these devices in the UK.“It’s absolutely crazy how a member of the public can reach out and a big company like this will step up to help.
They’re really going above and beyond.“If we can help even one family not go through what we had to go through, then it’s a job well done.
