BBC Radio 2 host Vernon Kay has paid tribute to Lauren Laverne, who today announced that she is receiving treatment for cancer.
Taking to her Instagram page, the 46-year-old told fans that the disease was "caught early and unexpectedly during a screening test".
She added: "I'm in hospital at the moment and wanted to take this moment to say thank you: Firstly to medical teams who have got me this far with incredible skill and kindness." The Desert Island Discs host went on to thank her colleagues for "their support and for giving me the time off that I need to get better" and added that her family and friends "have been absolutely extraordinary every step of the way".
Following the news, Vernon interrupted a song he was playing on his show to send his love to his BBC co-star. He told listeners: "And we are sending all our love and well wishes to Lauren.
