Gabby Logan sadly had to halt coverage of the Great North Run on BBC One today to share some tragic news with viewers.The veteran TV presenter was hosting the coverage on Sunday, 8 September, live from Tyneside and began the day by introducing a special rendition of anthem Local Hero, before a montage of Great North Run highlights from the past 43 years were shown.
Clips shown included Mo Farah's final Great North Run as well as Claire Lomas, who completed the race in 2016 using a bionic suit.
Claire, 44, suffered a broken neck, back, and ribs and punctured a lung when she was thrown off her horse 17 years ago. Despite her injuries, she raised £1 million for charity and also took part in the 2012 London Marathon.
Gabby announced Claire had passed away recently. As Gabby paused the coverage, she explained: "You may have recognised Claire Lomas in her bionic suit, which she wore to complete the Great North Run, having been paralysed in her sport, eventing.
