Vera's final series to air sooner than expected - with huge guest stars
ok.co.ukThe final series of ITV's Vera, starring Brenda Blethyn as DCI Vera Stanhope, is set to be the highlight of ITV's Christmas schedule.The show will feature guest appearances from Lewis actor Kevin Whately, Casualty's Derek Thompson and Corrie's Shobna Gulati.
After 13 years in the role, Brenda announced her retirement in April, making these two feature-length episodes her last. Other notable appearances include Band of Gold's Cathy Tyson, Here We Go's Freya Parks and Graeme Hawley, who is best known for his role as Coronation Street serial killer John Stape.
Brenda's "emotional farewell" in her 14th series will consist of two "poignant" stories adapted from Ann Cleeves' books; Inside and The Dark Wives.
Both episodes intertwine murder mysteries with Vera's personal journey as it reaches its conclusion on ITV. In the first of the two festive finales, Vera investigates a case involving secret love, grudges, regret, and fraud after a young man's body is discovered by fishermen on the banks of the Tyne.
