A car being 'driven erratically' led police on a chase - before smashing into a 4x4 and flipping onto its roof. The Vauxhall Astra was left a mangled wreck following the crash on Regent Road, Salford, on Sunday (April 26).

Officers on routine patrol in Manchester city centre spotted the car just before 10.30pm. The driver didn't stop when police requested and led officers on a short chase.

The Vauxhall then smashed into a Toyota Rav 4 at the junction with Oldfield Avenue. The driver of the vehicle, a 27-year-old-man, was taken to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

Police have launched an investigation. No arrests have been made. Images taken in the hours after the crash show the silver badly damaged in the middle of the road.
