Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been sacked by Rangers after just over a year in charge at Ibrox. The Light Blues are a whopping nine points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race and supporters lost faith in the Dutchman with loud boos at recent games.

Van Bronckhorst admitted after the 1-1 draw against St Mirren in Paisley last weekend that he was due to hold talks with the board over his future during the World Cup break.

And that match proved to be the last of 65 he took charge of. The Dutchman led Rangers to the Europa League final last term and lifted the Scottish Cup after taking over from Steven Gerrard, but has failed to replicate the form shown towards the end of last season this term.

A disastrous return to the Champions League group stage saw the Dutchman steer the club to the worst ever showing in Europe's elite competition.
