The UK is bracing for a 48-hour freeze with temperatures expected to drop as low as -12C in some areas, according to the latest weather maps.Those dreaming of a white Christmas might just get their wish, with WX Charts predicting snowfall in Scotland, Northern England and parts of Wales on December 25.The snowy conditions are forecasted to continue for at least two days after Christmas, possibly extending into the weekend.
Snow depths of 12cm in central Scotland and 14cm in the Pennines are also predicted for December 26-27. One map shows minimum temperatures of -12C around Fort William at midday on December 27, while Dundee, Newcastle and Carlisle could experience temperatures between 0C and -1C.
A map from Netweather predicts the highest risk of snow at 6am on Christmas Day affecting southern Wales and southern Scotland, with a 50% chance in the Home Counties.
However, the Met Office has cautioned that it's too early to confirm a white Christmas, stating that single models aren't reliable enough for a detailed forecast and should be considered as part of a wider range of information.
