UK weather maps are forecasting a deeper nationwide chill in the coming days, with temperatures set to dip even further below zero.
It seems like midwinter has come early for much of the country recently, as we've seen unseasonably low temperatures accompanied by widespread snow, rain and wind.
Photos reveal parts of the country blanketed in several centimetres of snow, leading to hundreds of schools being shut due to blocked roads and heating failures.The Met Office has issued numerous yellow alerts for harsh conditions, and even handed out two rare amber warnings advising drivers to stay off the roads.
Maps from other weather services suggest that while some of the severe weather will ease, many areas of the country will continue to experience biting cold.
