UK weather forecast: Met Office warnings as snow and wind to batter Brits over Christmas

Much of the UK will be battered by heavy winds on Boxing Day with the Met Office issuing a yellow warning. All of England and Wales are expected to be at risk from the strong gales that could reach 80mph and continue into December 27.

A yellow warning is for rain is in place for south Wales and much of southern England today with a similar warning for snow and ice for northern Scotland.

For those allowed to drive home for Christmas in Scotland the Met Office has warned: "Wintry showers will give a risk of icy patches and snow overnight and into Christmas Eve, giving some difficult driving conditions." There are currently no warnings for Christmas Day - yet.
