Temperatures could soar as high as 29C in Britain today to make a scorching start to the weekend - but the heatwave won't last long.
A cold front is slowly sinking in, meaning patchy rain at times, despite the highs, before a drop to "below par" temperatures into next week.
Met Office forecaster Greg Dewhurst said those in the southeast have a "hot day to come" on Friday, "reaching the mid to high 20s - 28, possibly 29C" by 4pm.
And while Saturday could still see highs of 24 or 25C "fresher air [is] starting to dig in to more of the country", alongside outbreaks of rain, he continued.
