The bank holiday heatwave comes to an abrupt end today with plunging temperatures and cloud forecast. As a cold front makes its way south, the mercury is set to plummet by 10 to 12C in parts of the country.
On the east coast, temperatures will drop to 6 to 9C, bringing an end to the above-average temperatures Brits have enjoyed for much of the last few weeks.
The chilly weather is set to come with gusty winds, which the BBC predicts could reach speeds of up to 40 to 45mph in the east and along the English channel.
England's south west coast will see the warmest of today's weather, where the mercury will hover in the mid-teens, reaching highs of 17C in Plymouth and 15C in Brighton and Southampton.
