Britain's top Brexit negotiator insisted a trade deal with Brussels must be struck by a week tomorrow as the clock ticks down to Boris Johnson's deadline.
Lord Frost told peers he must tell the Prime Minister by October 15 whether the UK's conditions for a pact have been met. So far No10 has not categorically ruled out the possibility of talks continuing beyond the summit.
But Lord Frost told the Lords EU Committee: "My job is just to work as hard as we can over the next two weeks to see if we can get an agreement in place by the 15th.
