Health Minister Matt Hancock has said the UK is reaching the peak of the coronavirus outbreak - but he won't lift lockdown. The United Kingdom's hospital death toll from COVID-19 rose by 761 to 12,868 yesterday - although broader statistics suggest the total death toll is much larger.
Mr Hancock said he did not want to "waste" the efforts of the public by lifting the lockdown measures too early, because coronavirus would "run rampant once again". "If we just released all the measures now then this virus would run rampant once again and we can't let that happen," Hancock said. "I'm not going to pre-judge the formal decision that is going to be taken, however, I think everybody can see that we've been clear that we think that it is too early
