However, a recent study from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona might make you think twice before reaching for your next cuppa.The research suggests that a single tea bag could be releasing harmful microplastics into your body.The study found that billions of these potentially damaging microplastics, which can have various negative health impacts, are present in tea bags.
After analysing different tea bags, the researchers discovered that most of these harmful microplastics are absorbed by the mucus-producing cells in our intestines, with some even entering the cell nucleus where our genetic material is stored.
