A UK holiday park was turned into a war zone as around 20 members of two families brawled in front of children, a court heart.Violence broke out at the bar at Haggerston Castle Holiday Park, near Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, earlier this year.
John Ward "saw red" when the initial dispute, involving his mother, unfolded and he threw a punch and smashed a gin glass, the Newcastle Chronicle reports.The-23-year-old "went charging in" when the security staff attempted to calm the situation involving the women.
His mother was escorted out of the dining area, the judge at Newcastle Crown Court was told.Judge Gavin Doig said it was a "quite large scale" and "unpleasant" incident and added: "I've seen children present.
There would have been serious fear or distress caused to, probably, a whole series of members of the public, young and old, by your actions."But Ward's 18-month jail term was suspended for 18 months.
