The UK might be in for an extra Bank Holiday in 2025 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. Reports suggest that a four-day weekend could be on the cards to mark this significant milestone.The festivities are rumoured to kick off around May 8, when we'll pay tribute to Victory in Europe Day - the historic day in 1945 when Germany surrendered.The celebrations will also honour August 15, the day Japan conceded defeat.There are rumours that the occasion could be marked with a long weekend from May 9 to 12 or linking August 22 with the existing summer bank holiday on August 25.

A whopping number of Brits have voiced their support for a new bank holiday. In a poll by The Mirror before Christmas and New Year, 73 per cent of participants were in favour of a special day, while only 13 per cent opposed it.

When asked if they thought younger generations knew enough about the sacrifices made during WWII, 66 per cent felt that young people weren't as aware as they should be.

Dick Goodwin, Vice President of the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans, expressed his anticipation for the upcoming celebrations with the remaining Second World War heroes, stating: "We are looking forward to celebrating with the remaining Second World War heroes - they deserve Britain's gratitude and respect for their courage and sacrifice.
