The UK's coronavirus hospital death toll has risen by 217 ahead of expected tier changes in parts of England. England recorded 179 new hospital deaths, Wales recorded 33 deaths, Northern Ireland reported five new deaths and Scotland recorded no deaths.
It comes ahead of a statement by Matt Hancock later this afternoon where he is expected to announce changes to England's current tier system.
The Health Secretary is expected to give an update to MPs at 3.30pm in the Commons, followed by an address to the public from No10, amid growing speculation London could be plunged into tougher restrictions.
