Two people die after horror one-car crash on A9

Two people have died following a horror crash on the A9 in Caithness. The alarm was raised shortly after 11.30am on Tuesday, November 29, when officers were alerted to a white Land Rover Defender having been involved in a smash at Achavanich, north of Latheron.

Emergency crews, including Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance Service, raced to the scene but sadly, the 46-year-old male driver and 50-year-old female passenger were both pronounced dead upon arrival.No other vehicles were involved.

The road was locked down until around 9.30pm to allow crash site investigators to begin enquiries into the tragic accident. The probe is still ongoing, but the road has since reopened.Sergeant Calum MacAulay of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the families and friends of both people who have died in this incident.“We are working to establish the full circumstances which led to the collision and I would urge anyone who may have information to come forward.“We would be keen to anyone who may have seen the Land Rover on the road prior to the incident or who may have dashcam footage from the area.
