Two people airlifted to hospital after serious crash on A77 in South Ayrshire

Two people have been airlifted to hospital and two others were injured in a horror crash on the A77 in South Ayrshire.A 24-year-old man and an 85-year-old woman sustained serious injuries in the smash just south of Ballantrae.Two other people were taken to Crosshouse Hospital.Emergency crews rushed to the scene around two miles from Ballantrae around 5.05pm on Wednesday.The 24-year-old man was driving a white Toyota Yaris was involved in a crash with a blue Volvo V90, which was being driven by a 58-year-old woman.The driver of the Toyota and the 85-year-old female passengers in the Volvo were whisked to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow by air ambulance for treatment.

Medics describe their condition as serious.The 58-year-old woman and another female passenger in the Volvo, aged 32, were taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment.

Sergeant Stewart Taylor said: "Our enquiries into the cause of the crash are continuing. "I would ask any witnesses, or anyone with information that will assist our ongoing investigation to contact us. "I would also ask anyone driving on that road around the time of the incident with dash-cam footage to get in touch.""
