Two boys were stabbed after being chased from a football pitch by two others armed with a machete and a knife, police have revealed.

GMP hasn't revealed their exact ages but confirmed injuries they suffered in the attack were not 'life-threatening'. Both, however, were treated in hospital, it's understood.

The boys are said to have been part of a larger group when the two other boys approached them. The double stabbing happened at 9pm on Sunday at the crossing of the River Irwell bridge on Hough Walk in Lower Broughton, Salford.

In a statement, police said: "Greater Manchester Police are now in a position following initial enquiries for the public to help with their investigation into a stabbing that occurred on the evening of Sunday 6 August 2023 at around 9pm at the crossing of the River Irwell bridge on Hough Walk in Lower Broughton, Salford. "Two boys were injured in the incident as part of a larger group, so officers are confident witnesses have details to share after they were approached by two other boys who were unknown on Peel Park AstroTurf pitches nearby before being chased with what is believed to be a knife and machete. "Injuries sustained are thankfully not life threatening after treatment and no arrests have been made at this time, but enquiries are continuing."
