Traffic stopped on motorway due to 'medical emergency'

Traffic was stopped on a major motorway this evening due to a 'medical emergency'. There is a partial blockage with very slow traffic due to the emergency between J22 near Newton Le Willows and J23 near the East Lancashire Road.

All traffic was stopped for a short period but two lanes have been reopened. Traffic is moving very slowly however. The incident was first reported on traffic website around 6.45pm INRIX with traffic 'trickling through', it says.

A Highways North West tweet said: "Traffic has been STOPPED on the M6 northbound in Greater Manchester between J22 (Newton) and J23 (St Helens) due to a North West motorway police led incident involving a coach.
