A tourist in Barcelona, Spain, has ironically thanked the locals for their "very warm welcome" after snapping a photo beside graffiti that read "tourists go home".

The woman, a yoga instructor and tattoo artist originally from Ukraine who now resides in Hamburg, Germany, saw multiple similar graffiti messages during her Barcelona visit this week.

Sharing the image on social media, she jestingly wrote: "Thanks Barcelona for very warm welcoming." However, her post, which rapidly gained over 400,000 likes, certainly irked some locals.

One individual commented, "as it should be", while another snappily told her: "Go home." Another local said "it's not funny [...] because of disrespectful tourism we locals can no longer stay in our cities".
