A much-loved football star has died at the age of just 20 after suffering a blow to the head in a hugely unlucky accident. Ecuador international Justin Cornejo, who played for top-flight team Barcelona SC, is thought to have been hospitalised after suffering a horrific fall that local reports said resulted in "brain death".The star, one of the side's goalkeepers, was visited at the clinic where he was being treated by his teammates before his tragically untimely death.
As well as playing for Barcelona SA, based in Ecuador's largest city Guayaquil, Justin performed for the country's Under-20s side, making his debut in 2022.
Liga Pro Serie A, the Ecuadorian top flight football league, expressed its "sincere condolences" after the terrible news was announced.
Justin's team-mate, 18-year-old striker Allen Obando, was one of the first to pay tribute to Cornejo, posting: "I still can't get over it, rest in peace, little brother." Defender Dylan Luque, 17, echoed that sentiment, writing: "Rest in peace, little brother.
