Tom Kerridge has opened up about how he was forced to make changes to his relationship with alcohol after fearing that he wouldn’t make it to his 50th birthday, which he celebrated back in July.

The TV chef, who is known for appearing on shows including Saturday Kitchen and More Sunday Lunch, may own a series of pubs ut he has revealed that drinking culture is something that he can’t “be a part of”.

During an appearance on Dr Alex George’s Stompcast, the chef revealed that he’d drunk 75 years worth of alcohol by the time he’d turned 40 - something which sparked him to change his ways. “It was massively a part of my life, and still is - I own pubs, I sell it and I’m passionate about people who make it.

Except it’s not something that I know I can be a part of,” he said. “The way I view it is that if you live to 75 years old, you’ve got that amount of booze that you can drink until you’re 75 - I did it all by the age of 40.” As a result, Tom cut out alcohol completely after believing that if he carried on as normal he wouldn’t “make 50”.
