Dean Henderson could be marooned at Manchester United after Tom Heaton sustained an injury. Heaton, 37, is understood to have suffered a calf injury in training ahead of the Premier League season opener against Wolves on Monday and is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks.
Back-up goalkeeper Matej Kovar is still expected to join Bayer Leverkusen, despite Heaton's likely absence for the remainder of this month.
Henderson, 26, had expected to rejoin Nottingham Forest and United have held discussions about a possible loan with an obligation to buy. Henderson was aggrieved he was not installed as United’s No.1 at the start of the 2021-22 season after then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told him of his intention to sell David de Gea.
