Tom Cruise’s Top Gun helmet has been sold at auction for an enormous £250,000, smashing its original estimate. The prop which was used in the 1986 hit film ended up selling for five times what it was expected to achieve after going under the hammer in Los Angeles.
The fighter pilot helmet which was worn by Tom as he portrayed Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell was part of the Prop Store’s Entertainment Memorabilia Live Action, which raised £4.75million overall.
Other one-of-a-kind film memorabilia on sale included a Darth Vader costume from 1977’s A New Hope which sold for £221,000, as well as a stormtrooper helmet which fetched £105,700.
