In the latest blow to the world-famous awards, actor Tom Cruise has unceremoniously returned his three Golden Globes. This huge gesture is in protest as criticisms levelled at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) continue to rage on.
Variety reports that Tom won the gongs for Born on the Fourth of July (best actor, drama), Jerry Maguire (best actor, comedy or musical), and Magnolia (best supporting actor), and filmmaker Ava DuVernay praised his actions on Twitter saying: ‘That time Tom Cruise sent his Golden Globes in an actual box to the reception desk of HFPA.’ The rumbling in the industry isn’t anything new, with regards to the Golden Globes.
