John Hopewell Chief International Correspondent MIAMI — Colombia and Mexico-based TIS Studios has boarded the Gaumont USA-produced “Futuro Desierto,” Lucía Puenzo and Nicolás Puenzo’s six-episode near-future psychological thriller and family drama which explores big questions sparked by Artificial Intelligence.

Also, it looks to do what Lucía Puenzo does best: Enroll a propulsive genre momentum to ask highly relevant personal questions, here focused via a familia drama, about modern-day society.

TIS Studios is handling international distribution on the series. Produced by Gaumont USA for Paramount Television International Studios (PTIS), “Futuro Desierto,” one of the biggest series to come out of Latin America, is headlined by José María Yapik, Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey, Andres Parra and Karla Souza in an all-star Latin American key cast. “Futuro Desierto” also marks a banner title in a slate of new and often high-profile titles which TIS Studios will introduce to buyers at Content Americas as the Paramount-owned historic studio – formerly known as TeleColombia and FoxTeleColombia – is returning to global distribution.

Its lineup features both its renowned 5,000 episodes library and key new often high-profiles series and movies such as “Cecilia,” “Los Enviados,” “Amor es Amor” and “Celia.” “Futuro Desierto”: The Details Directed by Lucía Puenzo, one of Latin America’s most sought-after directors and Nicolás Puenzo, an ace cinematographer “The German Doctor”) turned director (“Señorita 89”), “Futuro Desierto” is based on an idea by: Leonel D’Agostino, a key writer on “La Jauría,” and César Sodero (“Emilia”).
