A thug caught with a machete in a Hamilton street has been jailed for 18 months. Serial offender Dean Haddow, 31, was sentenced at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.He admitted illegal possession of a bladed item in Neilsland Street on January 20.Aga Mathieson, prosecuting, said Haddow went to a house in the street around 3pm.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

They saw him walking with a machete in his hand and phoned the police."The accused was traced three days later and has been in custody since."Defence lawyer Gregor Jarrott said Haddow's criminal record is"extensive" and he struggles with drug addiction.The solicitor added: "While in custody he has been engaging with the appropriate services and things have settled down."He is in a new relationship and is focused on bettering himself."Passing sentence, Sheriff Colin Dunipace told Haddow: "You have a troubling record for crimes of violence and use of weapons."This can be dealt with only by a significant custodial sentence."The sentence was reduced from two years to 18 months because of his guilty plea and backdated to January 24. *Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire.
