Three police officers have been injured after missiles and flares were thrown at them outside a football stadium ahead of a Europa Conference League match tonight.
West Midlands Police said three officers were injured following disorder outside Villa Park ahead of the match on Thursday night between Aston Villa and Legia Warsaw.
The force said away fans were not being allowed into the stadium after missiles were thrown at officers - and a 'significant policing operation' was continuing in the area. "Three officers have already been injured and a significant policing operation continues.
Please avoid Witton Lane where possible." Images taken at the scene show officers attempting to put out flames said to have been thrown at them on the ground.
