This tiny 'hidden gem' Greater Manchester pub is like a step back in time

With its narrow corridors and tiny rooms that can house no more than 20 people at a time, The Stanley Arms has been described as one of the smallest pubs in Greater Manchester.

But the tiny yet mighty Salford drinking spot is now the recent recipient of a big accomplishment as it has won not only one but two top awards - just months after a new landlady took helm of the venue.

The Eccles pub, which measures just 16 ft wide, was taken over by Sarah Brookes just five months ago and she said she was ‘determined’ to make sure the Liverpool Road venue became a focal part of the local area.

The awards from the brewery, which has 127 pubs across Manchester and the North West, aim to celebrate the best when it comes to those making an effort to make their venue stand out. “When I took over, I was determined to stamp my personality on the pub,” Sarah, 34, explained of her mission when taking over The Stanley Arms. “To let people know there was a new landlady in town, one who would be there behind the bar, ready to welcome customers, to chat with everyone, be their friend and local agony aunt.” Despite facing tough competition from long-standing and well-established names across the country, the pub was also awarded the Best Wet Pub at the awards ceremony, with the category recognising the venues that only serve drinks. “I wanted to ensure the pub became a thriving part of the local community,” mother-of-two Sarah added. “I'm thrilled to say that’s what has happened.
