The chemical leak in Trafford Park today was caused by a faulty valve on a tanker, the Manchester Evening News can reveal. Police declared a major incident at the Lanxess plant in Tenax Road.
A dozen fire engines and a fleet of ambulances attended the scene and local residents and office workers were warned to keep their windows shut.
It is understood that phosphorus oxychloride leaked from a vehicle at the works. A source confirmed that one casualty, a site worker, had been taken to hospital but was conscious.
