The Metrolink could soon come to Middleton and Heywood if the latest plans from transport bosses come to fruition in proposals that have been hailed as 'vital'.
Both towns form part of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) plans for a Metrolink expansion revealed last week.
Dubbed ‘The Rapid Transit Strategy’, it shows proposed new tram lines to Stockport, Middleton and Heywood - the latter two which both suffer from poor transport connectivity.
It also includes the introduction of tram-train services linking Bury, Heywood, Rochdale, and Oldham around the Atom Valley business site to join up the light and heavy rail networks, and potential major new tunnelled capacity.
