Snow warnings have been issued across the UK for this weekend with up to 40cm forecast to fall in some areas. Large parts of the country are likely to face disruption in the coming days after the Met Office issued a number of snow and ice weather warnings.

An amber warning for snow and freezing rain covering most of Wales and central England, including the Midlands and the north-west cities of Liverpool and Manchester, is in place from 6pm on Saturday to midday on Sunday, the Met Office said.

The second warning for snow, covering most of northern England including Leeds, Sheffield and the Lake District, has been issued from 9pm on Saturday to midnight on Sunday.

Both of the warning areas can expect to see 3cm to 7cm of snowfall - with 40cm forecast above 300m. Three separate yellow weather warnings for snow and ice are already in place for most areas of the UK, covering different periods of time from Friday to Monday afternoon.
