Sheridan Smith will lead the cast of Channel 5's latest drama. The Teacher begins on Monday night (January 31) and follows English teacher, Jenna Garvey.

Jenna, played by Sheridan, is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student, 15-year-old Kyle, who claims the pair had a sexual encounter. "With no memory of the night in question, Jenna’s only hope of redemption lies in uncovering the truth about a dark event in her past that returns to haunt her." The first episode of The Teacher will begin on Channel 5 on January 31, 2022, at 9pm and the series then airs over consecutive nights for the rest of the week.

Sheridan leads the cast with the actress is known for her countless roles both on stage and screen. The 40-year-old star is probably most recognised for early roles in Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, Gavin & Stacey, Benidorm, and Jonathan Creek before receiving critical acclaim for her roles in the TV dramas Mrs Biggs, Cilla, The C Word, Black Work, and The Moorside.

And there are plenty more familiar faces in the cast. Playing Kyle is Samuel Bottomley. The actor is best know for playing Brandon Kelleher in the CBBC series Rocket's Island and Jordan Wilson on the Channel 4's Ackley Bridge.
