The mother of a tragic student who took her own life amid a mental health battle has hit out at university bosses for not telling her family back home she was struggling.

Kate McBean's mum has slammed the 'countless mistakes by those supposedly tasked to help her' after a Manchester coroner concluded there were 'missed opportunities' by an NHS trust to help her daughter.

The 19-year-old's struggles - which she kept secret from her loved ones back in Birmingham - were laid bare at an inquest into her death.

The University of Manchester student, who struggled as a coursework deadline loomed, found herself in a 'situation of despair'.
