There are few finer things in life than a pint in a cosy country pub at the end of a walk in the Peak District. It's lucky then that the Derbyshire Dales has plenty of boozers to go at.

In fact, new research has found, it has more pubs per person than anywhere else in England and Wales. According to the Office for National Statistics, the rural district, much of which is in the national park and includes the towns of Matlock, Bakewell, Ashbourne and Darley Dale, has 132 pubs within its borders.

That means there are the equivalent of 184.5 pubs for every 100,000 people living there. READ MORE: The charming village just two hours from Manchester that's like stepping back in time The stats also show that per square mile there are 0.4 pubs in the Derbyshire Dales locality.

The next highest pubs per population is cited as The City of Westminster with 357 pubs which works out to 168 per 100,000 residents.
