A patch of land in Salford is about to become ‘critical’ for Greater Manchester - and the whole country. The site has been picked to become a 10,000sqm data centre to power the region into the future, helping with everything from using mobile phones to searching for digital information online.

It forms part of a £250m investment in the city from DLD Salford, in an area which has been earmarked for massive regeneration at the former White's Reclamation Site in Eccles, near Salford Community Stadium.

A planning application for the data centre was approved by Salford council on February 6, opening the way for construction work to begin.

Once ready, the building will create up to 20 new jobs, with five to ten people expected to be working at the site at any given time.
