Local Tory councillors in South Lanarkshire have called on Boris Johnson to resign as Prime Minister following the Downing Street garden party revelations.Alex Allison, the leader of the Conservative group at South Lanarkshire Council, said he backed Scots Tory leader Douglas Ross's calls for the Prime Minister to stand down.Mr Johnson has come under heavy criticism after it was revealed that he joined a garden party on May 20 2020, at the height of the initial lockdown restrictions.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Mr Allison told Lanarkshire Live : "While we appreciate the great work that Boris Johnston has done for the UK since his election we are disappointed in his handling of this affair. "A leader should be above reproach and therefore we support our own leader Douglas Ross in the position he has taken."Mr Ross became embroiled in a spat with members of his own party after he stated that Mr Johnson should quit, with Jacob Rees-Mogg, the leader of the House of Commons, who called Mr Ross a "political lightweight".Mr Ross said: "I have to say his position is no longer tenable.
