As it turns out, spending quality time with your mum could make her live longer and will improve her quality of life. Researchers from the University of California, San Francisco found that being lonely or experiencing feelings of loneliness highly contributed to life expectancy, especially as we age.
During the study, which included 1600 adults, nearly 23 per cent of lonely participants died within six years of the study starting, compared to just 14 per cent who had adequate companionship.
And by ‘adequate companionship’ researchers are referring to quality relationships – like the ones between mothers and daughters and even grandmothers and granddaughters.
