Stockport is being hailed as the ‘Hollywood of the North’ as it grows its reputation as a popular filming location for some of the world’s leading TV shows and films.

In recent years, the borough has served as the backdrop for popular shows including Peaky Blinders, Dodger, It’s A Sin and ITV’s recent hit The Tower.

It also has a number of upcoming productions with BBC, Disney+, Netflix and Sky already in the pipeline. Figures from Filming in England have revealed that since January 2018, 197 shoot days have taken place across Stockport, with an estimated production spend of more than £3.5 million. Stockport, which this year celebrates being Greater Manchester’s town of culture, was most recently used as a primary location for sitcom The Power of Parker.

Currently airing on the BBC, the show - starring Conleth Hill, Rosie Cavaliero, and Sian Gibson - is set in the borough and follows a self-made man with a chain of electrical stores to his name who struggles to keep his head above water as the 1980s turn into the 1990s.
