The Great Manchester Run, the annual half marathon, 10k and junior runs across the city, is now ‘very unlikely’ to go ahead because of coronavirus, organisers have said.
The 10k is said to be Europe’s biggest. In an email sent to entrants on Tuesday Paul Foster, chief executive of The Great Run Company, said the Great Manchester Run on May 24, and the junior and mini events the following day, were now at risk.
But with 10 weeks to go, he said the company ‘want to wait a short period to confirm what happens next’ rather than postpone.
The runs are hugely popular and together raise many hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity. A raft of celebrity runners also tend to take part, with more than 30,000 pounding the streets in total last
