With the way this summer is shaping up, any day out comes with a risk of getting a good soaking. But sometimes you've just got to take a risk - and things might just work out in your favour.

A little known Alton Towers policy means that if it rains during your trip, then you can get a free ticket to go again. It doesn't mean a bit of spitting of course, it needs to rain for an hour to get the freebie, but let's face it, that's not too uncommon for the theme park - it's only around 90 minutes from Manchester after all and we all know what weather we've been getting of late. There are already 16 days on the list this year, eight of them since the start of summer. The full list of this year's rainy days... March: 25th April: 12th, 14th, 21st May: 6th, 8th, 9th June: 20th, 30th July: 8th, 10th, 11th, 14th, 15th, 22nd August: 5th The offer - which is similar to one we reported on at Chester Zoo - applies to people who purchased a ticket on altontowers.com or altontowersholidays.com, for a specific dated "1 Day Pass" or “2 Day Pass” or hold a valid Merlin Magic Pass.

You will be entitled to return for a free visit within 12 months of your original visit. There are some exclusions however, it cannot be redeemed during weekends, school holidays or special events, including Scarefest and Fireworks.
