Texans' John Metchie III Diagnosed with Leukemia

Houston Texans’ rookie wide receiver John Metchie III revealed he has been diagnosed with leukemia and will not be playing in the NFL this season. John, 22, was drafted with the 44th pick by the Houston Texans back in April 2022.

His 2021 season ended in the SEC Championship Game after he tore his ACL. Click inside to read John and his college coach’s statements… “Recently I was diagnosed with APL (Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia), the most curable form of Leukemia,” the statement read. “I am currently receiving great medical care, am in good spirits and I expect to make a recovery at a later point in time.

As a result of this diagnosis, I will likely not be playing football this season. My main focus will be on my health and recovery.

God bless.” John‘s college coach at Alabama, Nick Saban, also released a statement: John has overcome every challenge placed in front of him in is life with toughness and determination, and we are behind him every step of the way in his fight against leukemia.
