Tesco has reduced the price of a key shopping essential, with other retailers following suit. We reported earlier this week how the supermarket had dropped the cost of milk for the first time since the start of the pandemic.
It's reduced the price of all sizes, with a four pint bottle down from £1.65 to £1.55, two pints from £1.30 to £1.25 and a pint now 90p instead of 95p. Read more: Join the FREE Manchester Evening News WhatsApp community The new Tesco prices, described as 'market leading for the UK retail sector', have sparked somewhat of a price war on the product, with both Sainsbury's and Aldi dropping costs too.
But it doesn't affect its overall position in our weekly comparison, where, with a bill of £12.30, it's still coming out as second most expensive for the eight items we've been tracking since last March.
Only Asda is more expensive, £12.50, for the shop, which, as well as the two-pint bottle of milk, also includes a loaf of bread, a pack of chicken breasts, a pack of mince, tea bags, coffee, beans and butter.
