The boss of Britain's biggest supermarket has explained how the new post-Brexit trade deal will affect food prices. After more than 40 years of Britain being part of the European trading area, things are changing on January 1.
Currently, the EU supplies 26% of everything we eat and drink in Britain, with no other continent making up more than 4%, so even a small change could have a big impact.
But John Allan thinks, under the new free-trade deal, there will only be a "very modest" impact on prices. Speaking on BBC Radio 4's The World This Weekend, the Tesco chairman said the deal would "hardly be felt in terms of the prices that consumers are paying".
