A 16-year-old boy has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for the murder of a father-of-four as he celebrated his twin daughters' second birthday.
Emergency services were called after James Gibbons suffered several stab wounds at 9.30pm on May 2 in Laindon, Essex. However, he could not be saved and tragically died at the scene.
Joshua Sparks denied murder and claimed he was acting in self-defence, but was found guilty following a trial by a majority verdict of 10 to two at Chelmsford Crown Court.
The teen offender was entitled to automatic anonymity, but Mr Justice Charles Bourne ruled at his sentencing hearing that he could be named, the Mirror reports.
