Team GB swimmer drops to floor after being disqualified despite finishing first in heat

Team GB swimmer Luke Greenbank dropped to the floor in despair after he was disqualified when it was deemed he swam too long under water during his heat in the 200m backstroke semis.

Greenbank finished first in one of the heats on Wednesday morning (July 31) with a time of 1:56.08, but his hopes of Olympic glory were immediately dashed after he was judged to have travelled more than 15m underwater - the limit allowed in the competition - after the final turn of his race at the 150m mark.

The Brit had posted the quickest time in qualifying and was ahead of German's Lukas Martens and Hubert Kos whilst he also beat Team GB team-mate Oliver Morgan into sixth. READ MORE How many medals have Team GB won at Paris Olympics 2024?

Latest list of winners in full The 26-year-old, from Crewe, could not contain his emotions as the news sunk in. Greenbank looked up at the TV screens before realising he would be axed from the event and dropped to the floor in despair.
