Taylor Swift has been named IFPI's Global Recording Artist of the Year 2022, an annual honour celebrating the most popular recording act in the world based on streaming and sales; including vinyl, CDs and downloads.

Taylor succeeds last year's winners BTS to claim the title for an unprecedented third time; having previously taken the prize in 2014 and 2019.

This makes Taylor the most successful artist in the award's 10-year history. The IFPI award is calculated according to an artist’s or group’s worldwide performance across digital and physical music formats throughout the year, from streams to vinyl, and covers their entire catalogue of work.

Elsewhere on the list, 2021 winners BTS land at Number 2, while 2018 winner Drake proves his endurance at Number 3. At Number 9, Jay Chou becomes the first-ever Taiwanese artist to appear in the Chart, thanks to his popularity across China and South-East Asia.
